The current raffle for a trade paperback copy of THE DEAD SEEKERS, ARC [Advanced Review Copy] is now closed. All entries were assigned a number according to entry received. Three winners have been chosen in using Random.org and notified by email to confirm shipping information within 72 hours. Should a winner fail to confirm in the allotted time, that entry will be discarded and a new winner chosen from those that remain.

If all goes well, we should be able to announce the winners by Monday afternoon. And no, this will not be the last raffle out of NobleDead.org.

Barb here. Okay, that title probably lays out the point of this blog post pretty clearly, but this is a complex topic.

Of late, I’ve heard some rather “loud” voices in the industry telling new/hopeful writers that not only do they not need an agent to be successful, but that an agent will actually be damaging to their careers.

In one online discussion, I recently (stupidly) jumped in to say, “Well, of course if someone is self-publishing, he or she doesn’t need an agent, but if a novelist wants to be traditionally published, an agent is necessary. How can a writer get a manuscript on the desk of a New York editor without an agent?”

I was instantly—and quite vehemently—told that I was “wrong,” and that no writer requires an agent to get a manuscript on the desk of a New York editor… and that unagented writers sell novels to New York editors all the time.

I bowed out of this discussion quickly, but I did worry that a lot of new/hopeful writers were listening to what I considered very poor advice.

Set in the same world as (but separate in story/characters from) The Noble Dead Saga and the coming first book of The Dead Seekers (Jan. 2017).

After some failed confirmations from one selected winner, we now have our third and final winner for this raffle. Along with April Halcomb and Mark Mains, Michael S. Hockenson Jr. has also won a signed, first edition, paperback of MW3: Witches with the Enemy.

Even now, all prizes are in the mail and should be in the winners’ hands with 10 days (usually). And with half a week gone, it will not be too long until next Monday morning… and another Audiobook raffle from Barb & J.C. and NobleDead.org.  

As of this morning, we have two out of three confirmed winners. April Halcomb and Mark Mains have each won a signed, first edition, paperback of MW3: Witches with the Enemy.

We have yet to hear confirmation from the third winner, who has until 6AM PST, Tomorrow, to respond. If not, we will proceed to the reselection process as outlined in the original raffle announcement.
